Terrakota Temples

Its parallel has not been found elsewhere in India and it may be considered as the pride of Bishnupur for its unique shape. Unique Architectural manifestions built by the Malla Kings & other rulers and some of the significant masterpiece are maintained by the ASI, providing lighting facilities and conserving the flimsy terracotta craftsmanship that is etched on each and every deliberate brick and wall of them. Some of the temples stands on a raised square laterite plinth with a pyramidal structure, some are decorated with circular galleries, some of them are hut-like structures with separate angled roofs held together by a tower at the crown with innumerable terracotta artwork on both exterior and interior walls. Must visit for all travellers. Some of the renowned structures are Rashmancha, Shyam Rai, Kesto Rai, Kalachand, Jorbangla, Madanmohan, Lalji, Radheshyam, Radhabinod, Nandalal, Sridhar etc.

Historical Structures & Antiques

The mysterious Gum Ghar was responsible for the disappearance of the evil doers. As the name suggests the structure was possibly used for punishing the offenders and guilty persons. Pathar Darwaja is the double storied gate accommodated troops and narrow slits allowed the archers and the gunmen to fire their shots. There is a small two storied chariot made of laterite stone. It was possibly built in seventeenth century. The lower portion of this structure is similar to Rasmancha, the upper part is similar to other Ekratna temples. Garh Darwaja or Chota Patthar Darwaja is a terracotta gateway, a destination famous for its terracotta masonry. At a short distance from this gateway lies another gateway which is larger in size and is known as the Bara Patthar Darwaja or Main Gateway of Bishnupur. Dalmadal is a canon which represents the sacrifice and struggle of the people of this region. The cannon named as dal madol was built by the malla kings to fight the maratha invasion. This canon was made with iron and have not any type of rust on this canon though it is exposed to rain and sun since 18th century.

Don’ts and Do’s while travelling [Protocol for covid]

Wear a mask that covers your face and nose properly and sanitize or wash your hands after and before you touch a surface. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Avoid close contact by staying at least 6 feet apart from anyone who does not belong to your household.

As the festive season is around the corner, most of you are planning to travel. Know the do’s and dont’s while travelling amid Covid. We know the risk will never be zero, still we have to be more and more careful. Follow SOP published by India Tourism Guideline.

First of all is Why? Is travelling necessary that much? If yes then collect all information of the desired destination. Take the help of your travel consultant and plan with much research work. Make it smart.

Where? Check the status of Covid before travel. Check whether the destination declared as contamination zone or not. Go through state health websites and check the details like entry requirements and restrictions for arriving travellers … testing or quarantine. Use the experience of your tour agent.

Who is your companion? Please keep in mind, children, senior and sick people have more chances of getting infected. Please don’t travel if you are sick. Also don’t travel with someone who is sick.

Wear a mask that covers your face and nose properly and sanitize or wash your hands after and before you touch a surface. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Wear it while passing areas with high community transmission. Use it while travelling on a plane, train, bus, in the waiting lounges, everywhere. Protect your eyes. It’s better to be overprotected than under protected.

Avoid close contact by staying at least 6 feet apart from anyone who does not belong to your household. Physical distancing, hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene are the most important and effective things we can all do to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Keep a sanitizer or a hand wash along with you to avoid getting contaminated with Covid-19. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after using the bathroom and after you have visited a public place. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer (with at least 60% alcohol) instead. Rub your hands to make enough lather and then wash them off with water.

As of now, the best and safest option is to bring your own food from home. If you cannot get your own food, then take all the necessary precautions before buying or eating food at a public place.

For adventure lovers / campers, Gear are vary important. Try to use taller tents. Good quality sleeping bags. Plan for simple foods, essential items, med box. Pack light.

Plan is the most important than execution. Discuss, homework hard and keep alternatives. Observe the local eye and always ready for the Plan B.

Wish you a safe journey.

Bengal – The Cultural Centre of India

West Bengal, in fact, offers all components of tourism as, leisure, holidaying, cultural, beach based, pilgrimage, heritage, film related, mountaineering, adventure and of course the traditional group tours as conventional tourism. So please visit Bengal with us. Be our guest and get the best experience.

The Cultural Centre of India – Bengal, is a land of varied charms with snow-capped mountains in Darjeeling in the north followed by vast expanse of forest, tea plantation and wild life in Dooars region in the foothills. Bengal is already quite popular for its beautiful tea gardens, and wondrous hill stations. There are heritage sites in the middle in Malda, Murshidabad and Nadia districts and forest tracts in the western districts. The largest delta of Sunderbans forms its southern coast. West Bengal, in fact, offers all components of tourism viz., leisure, holidaying, beach, pilgrimage, heritage, mountaineering /adventure and convention tourism. The State of West Bengal is a microcosm of the vast Indian sub-continent with its myriad physical forms. The mighty Himalayas in the north and the Bay of Bengal in the south protect the State. The State presents the full spectrum of Nature’s splendour with hills, forests and wild life sanctuaries, beach resorts, rivers, places of historical importance, ethnic culture and varied aspects of adventure tourism. West Bengal is also home to two UNESCO world heritage sites namely Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and Sunderbans National Park.

We have plans to develop several tourism circuits covering traditional and offbeat places of Bengal. We are blending new activities with the traditional travel plans and make complete different packages. The scope of Bengal tourism industry is immense. With an aim to boost the market we will launch them to the domestic as well as international market very soon. As of now the traditional tourism circuits were Darjeeling – Kalimpong adjoining hill stations, Forest areas of Gorumara – Jaldapara – Buxa in Jalpaiguri & Alipurduar District, Susunia – 17-18 Century Built Terracotta Temples of Bishnupur – Mukutmanipur Dam site in Bankura district, Mayapur – Krishnanagar – Ghurni – Nabadwip – Plassey in Nadia district, Raghunathpur – Ajodhya – Baghmundi – Charida in Purulia district, Baharampur – Azimgunj – Jiagunj in Murshidabad district, Bandel – Serampore – Chandannagar – Chinsura – the colonial heritage circuit of Hooghly district and many many more. Now we are introducing fantastic Home stay experiences, Thematic Film-tourism circuits, Craft – Culture – Cuisine – Community based activities etc.

We are planning to introduce a muslin tourism circuit in the state soon. Our aim is to bring our muslin tourism circuit to the forefront and showcase the amazing handicrafts & indigenous art of Bengal. Lot of tourists are ready for the tour and we want them to see how muslin fabric is manufactured. Foreigners love to sit with the weavers and join hands with them in the preparation of the handmade fine fabric. We feel that if we can provide them the opportunity to watch the production process, chances of them buying the products will go up, Baluchar had been a hub for the exotic Baluchari saris and silk even in the 17th century. The three places chosen for the circuit are Baharampur in Murshidabad district and Akalpoush and Sasinara in Burdwan district.

According to reports, sixty per cent of domestic tourism in India is backed by religious factors, and this temple circuit could be a promising move to increase tourism. A considerable section of tourists wants to visit religious places during their trips. Also, there are people who want to roam around only in religious places. That is why we have worked on specific plans to develop a circuit which would have prominent religious sites of all the districts of north Bengal. In a similar manner, such circuits are there already developed in south of the state. Famous shaktipitha tours are now ready for the pilgrims. Fullara – Nalateswari – Kankalitala – Bakreshwar – Tarapith is one of the most popular tourism circuit now.

Around Baikunthapur forest, Bhramari Devi Temple at Bodaganj (18 KM from Jalpaiguri), Sevoke Kalibari which is 25 km away from Siliguri are ready to visit. Debi Choudhurani temple is going to be completed over the next few months. Over at north Bengal, sites like the Mahakal temple at Jainti in Alipurduar, the church at Chunabhati in Buxa hills, the Madanmohan and Baneswar temples of Cooch Behar, the Jalpesh, Jatileswar and Bateshwar temples of Jalpaiguri would be included in our plan.

Folk music and dances like Baul, Kirtan and Chau Dance are famous around the world. There are variety of tribes found in every nook and corners of the State. Bauls, Santhal, Paharia, Lephcas, Bhutiyas, Chero, Khariya, Garo and Lohara are amongst the popular tribes of West Bengal. We have a rich cultural heritage. We have lot of monuments which can be treated as the most important part of Indian history.
